
Purpose
of the District and Local Career Development Committees
The purpose of the Rotary District 6460 Career
Development Committee is to encourage and assist local clubs in
the development of career development projects.
The purpose of your local club's Career Development
Committee is to find ways whereby the your local Rotary club can
help people in the community prepare for work and/or find useful
work.
Projects typically address the following general
situations:
- Helping young people prepare for careers and find work
- Developing and promoting apprenticeship programs for
persons of all ages
- Career planning programs in the schools
- Adult retraining
- Other situations which your club identifies as a
community need related to helping people find jobs and
prepare for careers.
Specific projects which have been
undertaken by local clubs around the world include:
- * Planning a career exhibit in a public place
- * Conducting a job shadowing program for junior high
school students
- * Conducting a job shadowing program for senior high
school students
- * Conducting a career awareness program for elementary
school students
- * Setting up practiced interviews for job applicants with
club members serving as interviewers
- * Organizing small business seminars to help struggling
entrepreneurs gain needed business expertise
- * Working with local schools to develop programs that
meet the needs of displaced adult workers
- * Providing scholarships to trade schools
- * Publishing a Career Service Directory which lists
Rotarians who can speak at school career days or conduct
plant or office tours for interested youth groups.
- * Working with local schools or organizations to develop
a training program in an area for which local jobs will
be available (e.g. television repair).
- * Working with local schools or organizations to develop
special training that will enhance the employability of
youth or unskilled adults (e.g. computer skills
training).
- * Establishing a local youth job data bank
- * Purchasing equipment needed by a school or local
organization in order to provide specific training (e.g.
computers, cad-cam equipment)
